Highly Collectible, Beautiful and Rare Finely Woven WOOL & Silk and Metallic Thread Persian Souf Isfahan Rug .This rare silk and metallic thread rug, would be the pinnacle of any area collection. The fine isfahan rug is a lasting legacy of the Golden Age of Carpet Weaving in the 16th and early 17th centuries. The inspiration for many of these exquisite rugs was the Garden of Paradise. The sheen of the silk threads, accented by metallic highlights, supports the sublime theme of this remarkable piece.
Isfahan was once known for creating pieces that were to be used in the palaces and mosques of the Safavid rulers. The high level of skill of the Isfahan designers and rug weavers was renowned for the superb quality and exquisite refined designs. Many of the area rugs were made from wool, and carpets made from silk and metal threads are extremely rare, especially in this level of preservation.
Silk can be spun into extremely fine, strong threads that can be dyed to create colors that have an almost electric glow. Souf carpets have areas of both flat weave and pile weave, showing the exceptional skill of the Isfahan weavers. The design is embossed and can be felt with the hand. The designs of Souf carpets are breathtaking, as you can see from this example.
