Review
A fine hand-made vintage giltwood mirror in the French Neoclassical taste, it is likely a product of the first half of the 20th century and shows fine craftsmanship throughout. There is distinct modernity about the form, a departure from the highly embellished and variated designs of the 19th century and much more angular with an emphasis on the limited embellishments of the cartouche. This is a vivid display of crossed torchieres over a garland of exquisite foliage intermingled with berries. A pair of heart-shaped fruit with flames rising from the apex rest over a raised-relief sprig over the tablet crest. The frame is simple and molded with feathering and a bead inset. The gilding is magnificent with a rubbed gold that shows hints of the red-bole in overly burnished highlights.
Mirror and Frame is 6'2" wide. Mirror is 3'4" wide. Frame is 17" thick.
