This magnificent antique Persian Kashan has a striking allover design of spiraled vinescrolls. The patterning is cleverly arranged so that the vines seem to suggest a latent circular or crown-shaped medallions. A palmette vinescroll makes up the main border, set against a red ground that contrasts with the deep navy ground of the field, reinforcing a framing of effect for the entire composition. The saturated brilliance of the color is matched by the lustrous velvety quality of the wool pile in the classic Kashan tradition.
