Extremely Impressive Antique Red Medallion Persian Heriz Rug, country of origin: Persia, Circa date: 1920 – Heriz rugs, named after the town of Heris in northwestern Iran (formerly Persia), have captivated rug enthusiasts for centuries with their bold geometric patterns, rich colors, and enduring quality. This particular rug exemplifies the enduring qualities that have cemented Heriz rugs’ place among the most sought-after textiles in the world.
Heriz rugs are renowned for their distinctive geometric designs. Unlike many Persian rugs that incorporate elaborate floral motifs, Heriz rugs often feature bold angular shapes, such as squares, octagons, and rosettes. These geometric forms are often arranged in a repeating all-over pattern, creating a sense of order and harmony. This rug exemplifies this design characteristic, showcasing a captivating interplay of geometric shapes in contrasting colors.
The use of color is another hallmark of Heriz rugs. While a wide range of colors can be employed, traditional Heriz rugs frequently incorporate saturated tones of red, blue, green, and ivory. The red color in our rug is a classic choice, often associated with power, passion, and good fortune in Persian culture. The blue and cream hues that frame the geometric design add a touch of elegance and balance to the overall composition.
Owning an antique Persian Heriz rug is akin to possessing a piece of Persian history. It embodies the artistic mastery and cultural significance that have earned Heriz rugs a place among the most coveted floor coverings in the world. Displaying such a rug transcends mere decoration; it serves as a testament to a vibrant artistic tradition and a conversation starter that sparks curiosity about the history and symbolism embedded within these timeless treasures.
Our antique Persian Heriz rug is a testament to artistic skill, and a reminder of the enduring power of design choices that continue to captivate collectors and enthusiasts worldwide.
Cyrus is very knowledgeable and is familiar with every rug in his shop. We second guessed our impulse purchase and Cyrus shipped the other choice. We then shipped the first rug back and without any hesitation, he credited the overage$. It was fun shopping in store but I’d be comfortable shopping on line. I recommend stopping in when in the neighborhood. Beautiful hand made Persian Gabbeh. Area rug and runner. We’ll be back.
