Antique Persian Northwest Rug, Origin: Persia, Circa: 1920’s – Here is a an exciting and remarkable antique rug – an antique Northwest Persian carpet, woven in Persia during the second or third decade of the twentieth century. Characterized by an exciting tribal composition, this delightful antique carpet is an excellent example of the Northwest Persian style. Known for producing carpets with more Caucasian than strictly Persian aesthetics, the rug makers of Northwest Persia were certainly heavily influenced by their neighbors in the Transcaucasian range. This particular carpet features a series of borders that surround a red field. Within the field, a series of nine stacked medallions dominate the composition. Each a different color than the last, these highly abstract, geometric medallions radiate with a profound tribal energy that gives the entire carpet an impression of cultural significance. Small animal figures and other detail work joins the stacked medallions, peppering the red field with a series of delightful surprises. Beautifully composed and excitingly tribal, this antique Persian rug is an excellent example.
